Adjust pH to 7.2.

*Prior to inoculation add 100 μl L-cysteine-HCl /10 ml medium, from a 5 % (w/v) solution of L-cysteine-HCl sterilized by filtration.

Another cellulose substrates that can be used are Avicel (microcrystalline cellulose), cellulose powder Whatman CF-11 (both in concentration of 5 g/l) and strips of filter paper Whatman n°1 (6 x 1 cm). This last substrate was used for liquid media.
