The Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT), a broad scope collection, is a service of the University of Valencia (UVEG) that has acquired the status of Microbial Resource Centre (Biological Resource Centre for Microorganisms) in accordance with OECD. Thus, CECT activities include both services to the public and research. Among services the most important ones are the deposit, preservation and supply of microbial resources (bacteria, archaea, filamentous fungi and yeast). Since 2004 it has the certification ISO 9001.
A Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), developed following the recommendations of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) regulates the accession and supply of microorganisms to and from the CECT respectively.
