Depositing strains

The CECT accepts in deposit strains that are similar to those kept in the collection. There are three types of deposits:

1 Public Deposit

The strains deposited in this way will be made available to the whole national and international scientific community, both in academic and industrial institutions. This type of deposit is free of charge. All those who are interested in depositing strains in this way, so they form part of the CECT, should send two copies of the pure culture of microorganisms to be deposited together with the corresponding form duly filled in.

2 Safe Deposit

This is a special service for long-term preservation of microorganisms offered by the CECT, in which their distribution is restricted and at the discretion of the depositor. In this deposit mode, although the strains are stored in the CECT they remain the property of the depositor. All information concerning the deposit and the nature of the microorganisms are treated in the strictest confidence.
Access to this type of strain is granted only on written request of the depositor.
Anyone interested in depositing strains in this way, should send the form duly filled in, together with two copies of a pure culture of the microorganisms to be stored.

As of the 1st of June 1992, the CECT acquired the status of International Depository Authority (ADI) under the regulations of the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedures. Likewise, we do not accept the deposit of filamentous fungi or yeasts that are known to be plant, animal or human pathogens.
For more details, see the document "Industrial Property", by the World Intellectual Property Organisation. May 1992, page 63.
See our Price List.
NOTE: Five copies of a pure culture of the microorganism should be sent with the form duly filled in.
