Identification

The CECT offers a service to identify isolates of bacteria, filamentous fungi and yeasts. To do this conventional morphological techniques, biochemical tests and molecular methods are used. Depending on the characteristics of the isolate, the time required to identify it can vary.

It is also possible to carry out the identification using an automated system to identify microorganisms, which is called BIOLOG of Biolog, Inc.. We would like to mention, in this respect, that as the identification is carried out using a computer program through comparisons with its data-base, in some cases the identification may not be conclusive. However, the CECT will invoice the same amount to the customer given the expense of the material needed to carry out the test.

We recommend anyone who is interested in identifying isolates should get in touch with the CECT to get more detailed information about this service. The information that must be supplied by the interested party concerning the isolate to be identified, will include data like the source and the methods used to isolate it, the culture conditions, the properties that are already known about it, etc.
Any information concerning its identification will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The isolate to be identified must be sent in solid media cultures (agar slants).
In the event that isolates turn out to be a mixture of different species, they are normally purified and identified with a consequent increase in the price of identification.
