The CECT only sends strains to microbiology laboratories and never to private addresses.
All new users must sign a "New user" form where they declare that the organization meets all relevant national and international regulations and policies for the reception and handling of the microbiological material received and accepts the policy stated in the MTA of the CECT. The "New User" form can be downloaded here in .pdf format.
Classification of the CECT strains according to risk groups follows the current Spanish legislation: Guía técnica para la evaluación y prevención de los riesgos relacionados con la exposición a agentes biológicos [Real Decreto 664/1997 de 12 de mayo (BOE nº 124, de 24 de mayo), Orden de 25 de marzo de 1998 (BOE nº 76 de 30/03/1998) and corrections on BOE nº 90 de 15/4/1998], that can be downloaded in pdf format here. Potentially hazard microorganisms not included in this Guide are classified according to the available information and indicated in the strain data sheet as "provisional classification".
The CECT delivers only microorganisms included in risk groups 2 and 3(*) inside Spain and the EEA (European Economic Area). Safety instructions accompany every shipment.
